Huge improvement in the efficiency of civil aviation

Montenegro is ranked high among the 192 Member States of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in the effective implementation of standards and recommended practices in the area of civil aviation safety. The official implementation efficiency of Montenegro in the area of civil aviation confirmed by ICAO is 87.99 percent, which is a huge improvement compared to the result from 2010 (64.71 percent).

The latest ranking is the result of a comprehensive ICAO control visit, which took place in January this year. Eight areas were controlled: legislation, organization, staff licensing, operations, aircraft airworthiness, accident and serious incident investigation, air navigation services and airports.

The largest part of the control activity was carried out at the Civil Aviation Agency. The control, in addition to the Agency, included the following aviation entities: Airports of Montenegro, Montenegro Airlines, Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services SMATSA, National Commission for Investigation of Accident and Serious Incidents of Aircraft, as well as the Directorate for Emergency Management and the Maritime Safety Department.

"This ICAO control has been the most important control the Agency has had since its establishment. We improved the results from 2010, when our Agency was at the very beginning of its work. Montenegro now ranked high among the countries with the most developed civil aviation and this represents a remarkable success that has been achieved in a short period of time. The Implementation of ICAO standards, presented in the Chicago Convention with more than 12,000 standards and recommended practices, with the implementation of EU regulation, remains crucial for Montenegro's international air connectivity," said Director of the Civil Aviation Agency Dragan Djurovic.

By comparison, looking at official data from the ICAO website, Montenegro has a better percentage of efficiency than many developed countries of the European Union, and furthermore, at the global level, some countries with powerful aviation industry are at the lower position.
