The British Ambassador: Independence of the CAA is of importance for aviation safety

Director of the Civil Aviation Agency (CAA), Ivan Scekic, had a conversation with the British Ambassador to Montenegro, Dawn McKen, on current matters and possibilities for improvement of cooperation in the area of aviation.

The focus was on achievements in Chapter 14 – Transport Policy, as regards CAA competences as well at the State level, with objective of closing important chapter, as soon as possible, at the path of Montenegro to become the EU member State.

The Director of the CAA stated that the Law on Air Transport is being amended after longer time period, that the Proposal for the law is in the parliamentary procedure, as well as it was intensively worked on in the previous time period.

The Ambassador pointed out the financial and functional importance of independence of the CAA and continuous professional training and development, with the aim to discharge public authorisations and to continue strengthening aviation safety and security.

The meeting presented an opportunity to exchange opinions on priorities in the work of the Agency, aviation development and challenges. Possibilities of providing support were topic of the discussion, particularly the part regarding system for oversight of unmanned aircraft and integration of their operations in the airspace.

“I appreciate very much the CAA work on strengthening regulatory framework and oversight role, as well as on harmonising with the European regulations and international standards. Such approach represents sound grounds for further cooperation between the United Kingdom and Montenegro”, the Ambassador Dawn McKen stated.
